“Art is not a thing; it is a way.” - Elbert Hubbard

Located on the West Side of Los Angeles, Heather offers in-person, home-visit, and Zoom lessons for children and young adults, ages 3 - 18. These sessions are one-on-one or in small groups of 1-3 students. Heather meets each child where they are in their creative development and works with them from there.
Student's are guided through the life cycle of a project, from experimentation to development to revision to completion. There is a dual emphasis on the student's identity as a creative individual and the technical skills that will help them realize that identity.
Classes include (but are not limited to) the following mediums: Drawing, painting (oil/watercolor/acrylic), illustration, crafting, sculpting, clay, soapstone, jewelry, puppetry, and needle-felting. Students are encouraged to introduce projects of their own design while using studio materials.
Bring in ideas from home! We can make them. Immersion and curiosity in the art process is the goal: the final creation is a bonus.
"An artist cannot fail; it is a success to be one."
- Charles Horton Cooley
Heather’s teaching philosophy emphasizes the development of the student’s identity as an artist. Her classes use active learning and structured dialogue -either one-on-one or in small groups- to help each child shape their creative vision and hone their technical skills.

Open-minded, creatively-focused conversation is key. Heather believes that while a powerful imagination cannot be taught, it can be, and often is, stifled by traditional American education. She attempts to excavate all childrens creative centers as they navigate their own identity and sense of self in the world.
The goal is to ensure students have the technical skill and emotional acumen necessary to know their own truth and express it visually (and emotionally) to others.
